Now that you are utilizing the "Speech Recognition" add-on in Google Docs for your students to dictate their writing, it would be beneficial if the students could also hear their writing read back to them. To do this, install the "Speak It!" extension within Google Chrome. Note: The user will need to be logged into Chrome to make this extension stick to their browser if you want the extension to be accessible every time you are using Google Docs within Chrome. (This is a great time to switch to Chrome as your default browser if you are still using Internet Explorer.)
1. Click on your menu within the Chrome browser.

2. Click on Web Store. Search for "Speak It" in the search bar. When you see it listed under "Extensions", click "Free" on the right side to install it.
3. You will see it added to the Chrome toolbar.
4. To hear your Google Document read aloud, click the Speak It icon from your Chrome toolbar. Note: Speak It will read the entire document, not just a selected portion.
5. Speak It will also read portions of webpages aloud. Just highlight the selected portion, and click the Speak It icon on the toolbar. Yeah!
